Laboratory analysis and quality control
Upon acceptance of the relevant estimate, paper manufacturers and
customers (packagers, printers, etc.) can send in samples of pulps,
papers and boards for analysis and characteristics assaying in contract
laboratories.
The IPE also carries out, on request, paper quality and behaviour
monitoring, acting as managers of the necessary human and technical
resources required and issuing its corresponding technical report.
Inter-laboratory Comparison and Lab. Apparatus
Calibration
The IPE is the Wholesale Laboratory for CEPI Laboratory Apparatus
Calibration service, and as such supplies Spanish and Portuguese
papermakers with additives, transformers and graphic agents and
samples for laboratory apparatus calibration, whose readings correspond
to the average from nearly 700 European laboratories.
AIMS
The final aim is to check the functioning and use of lab assaying
apparatus by sending out weekly paper or cardboard samples, whose
characteristics have already been determined.
The results are processed on a European scale and a report is drawn
up which enables the accuracy of any one machine to be compared
with the overall average.
The idea is not so much to obtain absolute ideals but rather a general
mean.
FREQUENCY
All laboratories in the Service receive samples twice a year. These
samples are accompanied by their approximate values (CEPI values).
SAMPLES
Each batch contains a certain number of individual sample pieces
depending on each assay and the number indicated in the relevant
standard for the test. Each sample corresponds to a different level
of values.
SUBSCRIPTION
The price of each assay includes two sample batches per year. IPE
member companies enjoy a special rate for this service.
The commitment undertaken by companies subscribing to this CEPI
Service includes the obligation to send the results of their measurements
of the samples to the IPE.
